Aerospace Systems

Fixed and Rotary Wing

Our expertise is resident in a wide variety of fixed wing and rotary wing models, full-scale test articles, and flight qualified components and systems. The “models” component of this expertise includes virtually every type of test model system used in the aerospace industry: aerodynamic force and moment models; loads and pressure models; inlet and exhaust models; cryogenic and high temperature models; flutter and dynamic models; and rotary-wing models and rotor test stands including rotor blades, hubs, and drive systems. In addition to its aerodynamic models, Triumph Aerospace Systems - Newport News is highly regarded in producing full-scale radar cross-section (“RCS”) models which require high fidelity fabrication expertise, usually in a restricted proprietary work environment. We have produced these models in support of nearly every major commercial, civil, and defense RDT&E fixed wing and rotary wing program for four decades. Our quick-response, rapid turnaround component production capability is evidenced in its work in the War Against Terrorism. The U.S. Army frequently procures rapid turn-around add-on components for its operational rotor craft.

Within this competency is a strong capability in instrumentation, software, controls and electronics engineering. Triumph Aerospace Systems - Newport News also has a unique capability in the design, fabrication, and automatic calibration of 6-component strain gauge balances that are used to measure forces and moments on test models. We own and operate one of only a few automatic balance calibration machines in the world, thereby allowing it to accomplish extensive, highly accurate, and repeatable balance calibrations in an efficient and very cost effective manner.

Triumph Aerospace Systems - Newport News has a long standing reputation for providing high quality wind tunnel models and flight research hardware to NASA, and to a world-wide OEM customer base in the aerospace and defense market segment.

Missile and Space Programs

Triumph Aerospace Systems - Newport News has been involved in numerous missile research and development programs. Remotely actuated control surfaces and fin balances are frequently employed in our designs.

We have a long history of providing man-rated and limited-production space flight hardware; have developed early mock-ups of the International Space Station (ISS); designed, manufactured, and tested major components of the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS); and continues to provide ECLSS ducting for Nodes 2 and 3. We have also delivered over 7,500 manufactured components and 130 subassemblies for Unity Node 1 in addition to storage racks for the ISS.
